University of the Pacific
The Darien Fields Band is an innovative rock band in the California Central Valley. The band is made up of Ryan Blodgett (drums), Jeff Anderson (bass), and Darien Fields (lead singer/guitar). The Darien Fields Band is a peer favorite on the University of the Pacific campus and has won the university’s battle of the bands competition 2012 and placed 2nd in 2013. The Darien Fields Band released their debut EP, Feel Good, in 2013 with Pac Ave Records. Frontman Darien Fields also performed on Christmas at Pacific.
The Symphonic Wind Ensemble is comprised of University of the Pacific’s most accomplished wind, brass and percussion students. The Symphonic Wind Ensemble performs on campus and as University ambassadors at high schools, colleges, and professional conferences in northern California, Oregon and Washington. In December 2012, the Symphonic Wind Ensemble recorded at the Skywalker Ranch in Marin County. In November 2014, SWE travelled to Seattle to take part in the Western International Band Clinic. In early Spring 2012, the Brubeck Institute Jazz Quintet recorded and released their first commercial album, Origins, under the guidance of Pac Ave Records. The members of the Brubeck Institute Jazz Quintet (BIJQ) are in the Institute’s Fellowship Program. Winners of numerous DownBeat awards, including the 2007, 2009, 2010, and 2011 awards for best collegiate jazz group in the country, this group has performed on the Monterey Jazz Festival, Playboy Jazz Festival, Brubeck Festival, Detroit International Jazz Festival, and others, and have done concerts in California, New York, Washington, Florida, Texas, Chicago, Toronto, Minneapolis, Washington DC, and on a State Department tour in Spain. They have performed in jazz clubs such as Yoshi’s in Oakland, Herb Alpert’s club Vibrato in Los Angeles, Blues Alley in Washington DC, the Dakota in Minneapolis, and the Jamboree Jazz Club in Barcelona. They have also performed at the annual conference of the International Association for Jazz Education, and at the First Annual Jazz Education Network conference in St. Louis, MO. The BIJQ also does clinics and performances in schools throughout the country.
